A tunnel at the Nam Pong hydroelectric plant in the central province of Nghe An collapsed on Sunday afternoon, killing two workers and injuring five others, including two Chinese nationals.

Initial investigations found that at around 2:30pm, as the employees were working inside the tunnel, parts of the tunnel’s roof suddenly collapsed, burying them.

It is believed that mine blasting caused the collapse, though further investigations are underway.

The two deceased are Ho Si Huynh, 24, and Tran Dinh Duy, 22, both of whom are local residents from Quynh Loc commune, Quynh Luu district.

The three injured Vietnamese are Hoang Van Sang, 22, Vi Van Thang, 29, and Hoang Van Von, 32. They are being treated at a public hospital in Quy Chau district.

Meanwhile, the two Chinese workers have not yet been identified.
