Switzerland-based Foster Wheeler AG won the contract for design and supply of 4*250 MW electric circulating fluidized-bed steam generators for the Mong Duong1 thermal power plant in northern Quang Ninh province.

The contract was inked between Foster Wheeler ad Huyndai Engineering and Construction, the contractor of the thermal power plant. Foster Wheeler has received a full notice to proceed on this contract. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Foster Wheeler will design and supply the 4*250 MW clean burning CFB steam generator to burn Vietnamese anthracite coal and provide site advisory services for the project. Commercial operation of the new steam generators is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2015

This plant, part of the Vietnam’s electricity development plan for the 2006-2015 period, has a design capacity of 1,000MW. It will produce 6.5 billion Kwh annually to meet the socio-economic development demands of the northern region.

The total investment for this power project amounts to VND33.61 trillion ($1.7 billion). The Asian Development Bank and South Korea’s Export-Import Banks provide loans equivalent to 52.4 and 32.6 percent respectively, while the Electricity of Vietnam Group providing the balance.
